Children Learning Reading: Lesson 13-15

April 21st, 2013 Posted in Learning Reading

Elden is learning to read more and more new words. He’s doing well and enjoys learning reading! Lesson 13-15 introduces new letters like O, H and N. As he is learning phonics from school, it is not difficult to teach him some new words with these letters. Elden will always try to read the choppy blending method before attempting smooth blending method. When he started to be confident and recognizes certain words at sight, he will skip choppy blending and reads it right away.

New Words Introduced in Lesson 13-15 – With O, H, N Letters

I wouldn’t discourage that because eventually, I would like him to read in a smooth blending way.

I will always keep his single reading lesson to below 7 minutes and repeat it several times a day. Sometimes, reviewing words from earlier lessons will help to enhance his memory.

Other times, I will collect words that rhymes and put them together so that Elden can see the similarities and differences between word and how they are read.

Since Elden has completed his first half of his reading lessons, I will temporary stop introducing him new word. Instead, I will review earlier lessons and combine few words to make simple sentences. Take a look of the words that he has learn so far.

Looking at the words, I can definitely form few simple phrases or sentences such as the following:
-SAT ON

-MAD CAT

-ON THE TAP

-HOP ON BUS

-COP CAN TAP

-HUG THE BAG

-THE HOT POT

-SPOT THE CLAM

-PASS THE STOP

-STOP THE CAB

-NOT BAD BATS

There are many other possible combinations to form simple words and phrases. He now finds reading more meaningful! I would highly recommend the Children Learning Reading program to those who would like to teach your child to read. If you child has already picked up phonics, you can advance to choppy blending method of reading. But if he /she hasn’t learn phonics, you can always refer to the audio tutorial.
