Children Learning Reading: Lesson 16-18, G, D

April 28th, 2013 Posted in Learning Reading

Reading list reward chart, children learning readingGuess what!? Elden has completed the first part of Stage 1. His Part 1 reading list reward chart is full of stickers! I printed Part 2 and we’re ready for more reading challenges!

By speaking English at home, it makes learning reading a whole lot easier. Most of the time, I wouldn’t need to explain the meeting of the words.

When it comes to letter G, Elden can connect with some familiar rhymes like ‘frog in a bog’. Other words that is taught in this lesson like Hog, Dog, Bug, Gap and Got immedietaly makes sense to him. When it comes to letter D, he learn words like:

-Dad (he calls his daddy – Daddy)

-Add (teaching him Math at home made a lot of difference too!)

-Bad (read him various children stories about Big Bad Wolf!)

Watch Elden’s progress on reading just 3 weeks after starting the program.

Besides teaching him reading from the Children Learning Reading program, his learning is enhance by practising with Blends Phonics Wookbook.

  1. wow, your son is great. finished stage 1 so fast. mine just reach lesson 9 (U), he still cannot connect the sound of the word. (smooth blending) yet, let see.

By the way, starfall is very good site, i also downloaded the apps to my iphone/ipad. My son loves it very much.

  2. actually, he just finished part 1 of stage 1 at lesson 18. he still has lesson 19-28 to go before he finishes stage 1.

don’t worry about the smooth blending yet. just continue to practice choppy blending until he’s comfortable. :)

as i do not want him to get hooked online, i just use starfall on and off. the Children Learning Reading program is still the core teaching material. :)

  3. Now my main challenge is to get him sit down for the lesson :(
