Two years ago, I remember buying a set of doctor’s toys that came with things like stethoscope, bandages, thermometer and a pair of fake scissors – without any blades but just plastic.

Jasmine picked up the scissors and started cutting papers and it did cut! Thereafter, I bought her a little pair orange scissors. Very small. Very safe. No sharp edges. And she continues cutting, cutting and cutting. She simply loves to cut, although she did not really managed to cut out great shapes, but she developed skills in using scissors. So, we were glad!

Today, at 5, she continued to love craft and she had completed the Easy Crafts by Kumon workbook.

She continue to look for more things to cut and one day, while shopping, we saw some craft scissors for sale. Without much thought, we bought it.

This is the first time she discovered scissors can cut waving or zig-zag lines instead of straight lines. The challenge continues. It is not as easy as using normal scissors. We find it harder to cut thicker papers. The thicker, the harder. Papers that are about 154gsm are just nice.

Now that we have two pairs, one for cutting wave lines and the other for zig-zag lines, we are ready for some crafts!

Two nights ago while visiting a family friend, we saw my friend’s son, who is also 5, did a great job by framing up some of his artwork. We got some ideas and thought we could do something similar.

I showed Jasmine on how to use the craft scissors to cut out frames and paste it on her drawing. We decorated the frames together and were happy about it. On the same day, we made four exciting frames with different designs and it is all over her wall now.

I think these pairs of craft scissors makes can become a great scrap booking tool too!
